currently living in vancouver, bc
working on search at turbopuffer. joined in early 2024 as the second engineering hire. i mostly work on full-text search, but i've touched most parts of the database
thinking a lot about search, databases, and storage systems
reading mostly science fiction + the occasional classic (my oku)

past lives (great movie!)

started operand.ai in 2021 (shut down in 2023). raised a bit of money and spent two years building infrastructure for proactive software. some of the stuff we built:
- imessage bots that message you first
- semantic recommendation engine w/ vector embeddings
- a vector database from scratch in zig
- internal knowledge sharing platform for teams
spent a month living in both prague and frankfurt. spent almost two months living in seoul, korea.
studied computer engineering at the university of waterloo. during co-op, worked at:
- kuna, getting on-device object detection working for the doorbells, and building real-time video streaming infrastructure
- amd, working on fidelityfx downsampling and background-noise suppression
in high school, interned at the queen's big-data analytics and management lab. published research on search query expansion at COMPSAC 2019
first got into programming through minecraft. wrote server-side java plugins, and played a lot of hardcore factions
