chipotle's red chimichurri sauce review
i ventured outdoors today with one goal: try the new chipotle red chimichurri sauce, supposedly, its "next step in menu innovation".
here are my notes from my experience:
- costs $1.15 CAD, the sauce comes in a separate little plastic container you get with your bowl
- portion is big enough to cover you throughout the entire burrito bowl, you (probably) won't run out mid-way through
- sauce gave chilli-oil vibes, but wasn't spicy at all really, sort of tasted like a chilli-inspired pesto, very garlicky
- splashed a little bit on my pants, guessing that stain won't ever come out
overall, it's a decent sauce. chipotle restaurants typically have free tabasco sitting around. you should prefer the free tabasco if it's available, it adds a similar flare to a bowl as the chimichurri sauce will. however, if you're wanting that flare, and they either a) ran out of tabasco in store (happens quite a bit), or b) you're ordering takeout, then getting the chimichurri sauce is maybe justified.
that said, you maybe should also consider just going and getting some proper chilli oil (lan gan ma) and put that on your bowl. same thing, probably better, and way cheaper.
